InterACT, Sacramento's Asian American Theatre Company

Artistic Director: Dennis Yep

Interactive Asian Contemporary Theatre, or InterACT, strives to entertain and enlighten the community through a rich variety of plays, exploring issues, themes, and stories mainly about Asian Americans. Now concluding its sixth season, InterACT has produced well over a dozen plays, including historical and family dramas, comedies, mysteries and musicals. Settings have ranged from ancient Japan to modern-day Carmel. The universal themes and appeal of these shows have attracted a multicultural audience of young and old.

Introduced in 1994, InterACT began as the Asian Pacific Theatre Company and underwent a name change in 1998 to reflect its involvement with different segments of the community. Most of the hard-working cast and crew members are volunteers. Some of the actors have years of experience on stage, while others had never acted at all. InterACT provides an opportunity for Asian Americans to perform and develop their skills, while supplying satisfying roles written by such prominent playwrights as Philip Kan Gotanda and Tony Award-winning David Henry Hwang.

Often this is a chance not available in other companies and a refreshing change from the few portrayals of Asians on the screen. InterACT welcomes both experienced and aspiring actors of all levels to audition for upcoming productions. In addition, there is always a need for volunteers for marketing, mailings, ushering, and technical and backstage support.

InterACT is committed to bringing quality productions to local audiences. If you haven't yet seen an InterACT production, the characters, settings and themes may prove different from what you've seen onstage before and hit powerfully close to home.
